New Metal Clay Course

Sign up for our new Foundations in Metal Clay Course. This is the first in the series of comprehensive metal clay courses designed for the experienced jeweler with little or no knowledge of metal clay, or for the beginning jewelry student just starting their education in jewelry making.

The course is comprised of twelve three hour classes in the theories, and techniques of metal clay jewelry creation. Through teacher demonstration and hands-on experience you will learn metal clay fabrication techniques and after completing this course you will know enough to work independently, and be comfortable working with metal clay to create your own designs.

The Grand Opening held on November 5th, 2011 was a resounding success. Miami Jewelry School would like to thank all who took the time to come and support us in such a special day.

2 Hour Metal Clay Demo

Bernadette Denoux, our new Metal Clay Instructor will be demonstrating the process of working with precious metal clay. Learn its history, and the alchemy that turns clay into silver. Watch her take you through the fabrication process of a pendant while she rolls it, adds texture and fires it with a butane torch.

Free Jewelry Design & Illustration Presentation!

Tammy Cohen who joins MJS as the Jewelry Design and Illustration Instructor, will explain how to take an idea to a final product on paper.  You will be able to see some ready-made collections from rough sketch to final design.  In this 2 hour presentation she will demonstrate one metal rendering, and the rendering of 2 turquoise beads.  

Presentation will be Monday, November 14 at 10am.

Welcome to the First Institute of Gemology and Jewelry School of Florida, in short "Miami Jewelry School".

We are an established, Vocational Trade School licensed by the Florida Department of Education since 1987.
For over 23 years we have trained students of all ages to become jewelers and we proudly see many of our students continuing on and establishing themselves and being part of this wonderful profession.
There are many schools available for teaching you the basics of jewelry making, and they all do a credible job.
However in jewelry making, learning the basics is only one aspect. Congratulations MJS Alumni: Bernadette Denoux!

In the book Jewelry Design Challenge, 30 leading artists take up the challenge to create a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry using the same nine basic materials (with the option of adding a wildcard element). In this contest, jewelers and crafters were challenged to do the same: create an original piece of jewelry using some or all of the materials in the book, also with the wildcard option.

We are proud to announce that our Alumni, Bernadette Denoux, was awarded an Honorable Mention at the Lark Crafts Jewelry Design Challenge for her piece titled "Suspended on the Bridge".

"Bernadette, of Miami, Florida, used the materials in a pleasing way unlike any of the other entrants to make her piece, and in recognition we’re sending her a library of five Lark Jewelry & Beading books".

South Miamian's jewelry hobby leads to business success

When a sour job market left her unemployed, a local woman turned what used to be a hobby into a jewelry business -- The Mayi Collection -- whose success exceeded her expectations.
